On January 26 2010, Mr. Klaus Ebermann, the former ambassador of the EU Delegation to China, visited IES. This is the first time that he has been to China after he completed his post as the EU ambassador, who became the ambassador to Egypt after that.

Mr. Ebermann delivered an insightful speech on “Europe, the Middle East and China”. His speech covers a wide range concerning, a new Egypt with rapid proceeding and successful economic reforms not familiar with the outsiders, the political importance of the region (Africa) as such, the complexity of the relations between the  Arabic countries, the impacts of the Islamic ideas on society, the relative degree of presence of the different powers, and the EU’s policy towards Africa, especially the Barcelona process.

The scholars of the IES exchanged their views with the ambassador on a wide range of topics related with his speech.
