KUANG Yang,MA Shengli:A Study of Political Cultures in Europe
A Study of Political Cultures in Europe, edited by IES scholars Kuang Yang and Ma Shengli, was published in November 2012 by the Social Sciences Academic Press. It is composed of two parts. Part one is a study of political cultures in a regional perspective and discusses some cases studies like the UK, France, Germany and Spain; and part two deals with two special issues such as the rise of modern political ideas in Europe and the EU’s community of common values.
According to the authors, liberalism and nationalism have been playing an important role in formulating the political cultures in Europe. In the process of promoting regional integration, however, common values came into being and they have been clearly exemplified in all the treaties and other legal documentations.
The book also notes that, as in any other regions/countries of the world, Europe’s political cultures have some inherent shortcomings. For instance, Colonialism and fascism originated from the European political cultures.
This book is the outcome of a CASS project initiated in 2001. It is the only book in China examines political cultures in Europe.
