David Shambaugh,Eberhard Sandschneider,ZHOU Hong:Publication of China-Europe Relations: Perceptions, Policies and Prospects

The Chinese version of China-Europe Relations: Perceptions, Policies and Prospects was published by the Social Sciences Academic Press (China) in February 2010. All the three editors, David Shambaugh, Eberhard Sandschneider and Zhou Hong, are the world’s leading specialists in the field of China-European relations studies. And the rest the authors of the book are also famous scholars engaged in studies on this subject for many years. This book is the most significant study of China-Europe relations to have been published in the Western world in several decades, and it is important that it be available in Chinese.

This book is an unprecedented and systematic exploration of Sino-European relations, and their implications for the United States and world community. The volume considers both historical and contemporary factors affecting the China-Europe relationship, and it pays special attention to several key features. First, there is an emphasis on the role that mutual perceptions play in the relationship—both among the public as well as experts. This includes unprecedented surveys of the state of Chinese studies in Europe and European studies in China. Other key factors are also considered: the Taiwan issue, the commercial relationship, European integration, and the role of the European Union as a bureaucratic actor.  Finally, several chapters consider the international implications of the relationship—both for global governance and particularly for the “strategic triangle” with the United States.
