Chinese Academy of Social Sciences-University of Coimbra Centre of China Studies
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences-University of Coimbra Centre of China Studies is one of the overseas China research centres affiliated with CASS. On 4 December 2018, witnessed by President Xi Jinping and then Prime Minister António Costa, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the University of Coimbra signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish the CASS-UC Centre of China Studies. Established on 5 December of the same year, the Centre is dedicated to fostering academic exchanges between CASS and Portuguese research institutions, while building and developing an international academic exchange platform in partnership with UC. The University of Coimbra houses numerous valuable historical materials and documents concerning early Sino-Portuguese exchanges, bearing witness to centuries of cultural interaction between East and West. The Centre maintains an office and the “Sino-Lusophone Library” at UC. Since its establishment, the Centre has conducted activities through various means, including organising academic seminars and lectures, and exchanging academic publications.
