Curriculum Vitae for Jiang Shixue

Jiang Shixue is Professor and Deputy Director of the Institute of European Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) since November 2008. Before then he was Deputy Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at CASS, where he had conducted Latin American studies for 29 years.  Therefore, his areas of academic interest cover both European studies and Latin American studies.

Concurrently, Jiang Shixue is also Chair of the Department of European Studies at the CASS Graduate School, Vice President of the China Society for the Emerging Economies, Vice President of the Chinese Association of Latin American Studies, and Deputy Director-General of the Chinese Center for the Third World Studies.

Jiang Shixue was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean at the York University, Toronto, in 1985-86, and participated in the Mid-career Associates Program at the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, University of California at San Diego (UCSD) in 1990.  In 1998 he was the recipient of a fellowship to work on the project titled "Latin America and the Pacific Rim" at UCSD.  With a fellowship from the EU-China Higher Education Program, Jiang Shixue spent one month during March-April, 2000, at the Research Center for Development and International Relations (DIR) at the Aalborg University, Denmark. During January-March, 2013, he was conducting research at the European Policy Center, a Brussels-based think-tank. 

Jiang Shixue has been invited to participate in international conferences or conduct academic activities in Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Macao, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.
