A New Book on China-German Relations
The year 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relation between China and Germany. With the support from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the Society of German Studies at the Chinese Association of European Studies and the Center for German Studies at CASS published a book recently on the bilateral relations between the two countries. It was inaugurated at the conference celebrating the 40th anniversary of the bilateral ties during November 20-21, 2012.
Titled “Retrospect and Prospect of the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Germany” and published by the Social Science Academic Press in Chinese, the anthology is divided into four parts:
The first part is a collection of biographies by four former ambassadors to Germany. They are Wang Shu, Mei Zhaorong, Lu Qiutian, Ma Chanrong, who in a unique and incisive manner has traced the historical process, which has witnessed the ebb and flow of Sino-German cooperative relationship over the past 40 years.
The second part consists of nine theses on economy, diplomacy, society and culture, whose authors are all preeminent Chinese scholars on German studies.
The third part is a collection of works covering as many as ten topics on politics, economy and trade, finance, science and technology, environmental protection, culture, education, climate change and energy, security and military affairs, cooperation and dialogue on law enforcement between China and Germany.
The fourth part is a compilation of documents including fifteen important government joint statements, press communiqués, bilateral agreements and papers as well as a list of names of the ambassadors and other appendixes for references.
Gu Junli and Yang Xiepu are the co-editors of the book. Gu is President of the Society of German Studies at the Chinese Association of European Studies, and Yang is Deputy Secretary-General of the organization.
