United in Diversity: The European Model of Regional Governance (by Wu Yikang et al), is the outcome of a research projected supported by the China National Foundation of Social Sciences.  It tries to deal with the history and reality of the European model in the light of regional governance. The authors of the book contend that democracy and rule of law, market and equality, equilibrium and stability, integration and convergence, peace and security, multilateralism and consensus, are the fundamental values of the European model.

According to Wu Yikang, regional governance in Europe is an extension of national governance.  The European model is still in the process of development, though its framework, basic belief and prospects are quite conspicuous. He says that regional governance in Europe represents one of the greatest transformations of international relations.  “Its innovations in both institutions and policies are the most remarkable experience in mankind history,” says Wu Yikang in the preface of the book.

The book was published in Chinese by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Press in December 2009.

Wu Yikang is a professor from the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.  He is one of the best scholars on European studies in China.
